"As I understand it the club wants Scott to stay and have given him a long contract," West Ham boss Avram Grant said. "It's good for the club and good for Scott. He's very important to this club and I hope it will be done."
Grant has brought in five new players so far this summer but has failed in his bid to land Miralem Sulejmani after the Ajax midfielder failed to obtain a work permit.
"We didn't succeed in the deal and we are looking forward - I can't look back on things I can't change," Grant added.
The Hammers are understood to be close to agreeing a deal for Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo.
