Fabregas admits Arsenal were not on top form

Cesc Fabregas admitted Arsenal were not at their best despite demolishing Wolves 4-1 in their Premier League match at Wolves on Saturday.

The hosts began the game well and caused the Gunners problems, but Arsenal went ahead when Ronald Zubar deflected a corner into his own net, and defender Jody Craddock then deflected in Eduardo's off-target chip to make it 2-0 and two own goals.

Fabregas continued his fine scoring run as he finished off a counter-attack just before half-time and Andrei Arshavin made it four with a strike into the bottom corner before Craddock headed in a late consolation for Wolves.

"It was disappointing to concede from a set-piece like that," he told ESPN. "They played well. We were not at our best but still managed to score four."

Robin van Persie, who admitted Arsenal are hoping for a draw between Chelsea and Manchester United tomorrow, agreed with his team-mate's assessment.

"The first 20-25 minutes, Wolves were really pushing - and up to the goal, they were really committed," he said. "Then we scored another one - and the game was over."

Arsene Wenger was delighted to add another victory following the Champions League success against AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday, and feels their title challenge is firmly on track.

"We conceded a goal, but overall it was a good performance," he told ESPN. "They made a strong start but, once we got ahead, we controlled it. I'm pleased, because we had the Champions League game in midweek and we won today 4-1. Our belief is there. We want to give our best in every game. We have great potential and we can go from strength to strength."

Abou Diaby suffered an injury in the first half and Wenger said: "We don't know what it is yet. It looks like a calf strain."
