Arsenal chairman insists Fabregas will not be sold

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has rubbished rumours that captain Francesc Fabregas could be the next big name player to exit the club, insisting there is "absolutely no chance'' he will be sold.

After being tracked by both Barcelona and Real Madrid earlier this summer, the Spain international has been attracting the interest of AC Milan in recent weeks as they look to replace Kaka.

Hill-Wood said: "There is absolutely no chance of us selling Cesc and all this talk is just fabrication.

"This sort of thing crops up from time to time and it is something we are perfectly used to. Cesc is happy at Arsenal, as far as I am aware.''

Following the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City for a combined fee of £41m, there have been fears that the 22-year-old talisman could be the next to leave after four years without a trophy at the Emirates.

However Arsenal, who have only added Thomas Vermaelen to their squad so far in the transfer window, have refuted claims that they could be about to cash in on another asset.

Fabregas, contracted to the club for another five years, is seen as being central to the club's plans going forwards. Manager Arsene Wenger's priority is now signing players rather than selling them.
